TUMC is a Christian community in the Mennonite-Anabaptist peace church tradition. We aspire to be a family of faith that welcomes people of diverse backgrounds and stories, worshipping and supporting each other, while following Christ’s example in working for peace and justice in our urban context.
This Sunday
Come as you are for worship at 11 a.m., as we begin the month-long Season of Advent under the theme of “Be Amazed,” featuring a host of special events. Faith Formation classes for kids age 3 through middle school start at 10 a.m., while the senior youth class coincides with the worship service at 11 a.m. Stay for coffee afterward — we’d love to meet you! And check out the following upcoming events.
Advent I (Nov. 30)
This Sunday, we will be observing Communion during the service. During activity period (later part of the service) and after, the children will be practicing for their upcoming pageant and decorate the Christmas tree.
Be sure to come back at 6:30 pm for our much beloved Annual Carol Sing, a rollicking hour of ringing in the Christmas season with song. Come and sing all your favourites, maybe learn a new one or two, and try your skill with Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus”! No expertise required—just a holiday spirit of good fun. Homebaked goodies will follow!
Advent 2 (Dec. 7)
Join us as we continue the theme of “Be Amazed,” with some special features in the service. immediately after, we’ll take our annual church family portrait.
Advent 3 (Dec. 14)
Our children and youth will present their pageant this Sunday, followed by a “Red & Green Potluck” for children and youth. The pageant will be repeated for residents of St. Clair O’Connor Community in the afternoon.
Blue Christmas (Wednesday, Dec. 17 evening)
For many people, Christmas is a difficult time for reasons of grief, loneliness, depression, or physical, emotional, mental or economic struggles. If you find yourself out of sync with the forced gaiety of this time of year, you are invited to attend this quiet service of comfort and contemplation. Dinner will be served at 5:30 pm, with a short service to follow at 6:30 pm. You are welcome to attend either or both.
Advent 4
We’ll mark the final Sunday of Advent on the theme of “Be Amazed.”
Christmas Eve (Dec. 24, 6:30 pm)
Guests and neighbours are warmly welcomed to join us for a candlelight service of lessons and carols, always a beautiful highlight of the church year.
December 28
As we move toward the new year and Epiphany, we’ll continue the theme of “Be Amazed” this Sunday with our 11 am service (no Faith Formation classes this week). At 2 pm, we push the chairs in our sanctuary to the side for some energetic fun at the Christmas Ceilidh! Join us for a couple of hours of traditional folk dance and joy with a live band, no experience required! (Donations appreciated to cover cost.) Afterward, there will be a reunion for young adults who are “home for the holidays.”
